UConn Women's Basketball Team Records 100th Straight Win with Victory vs. USC

Nearly two full years ago, a No. 1 SC team came to Storrs boasting the nation's best defense. She just hopes she's on the winning side.

Behind a career-high 26 points from Gabby Williams, top-ranked CT earned its 100th consecutive victory with a 66-55 triumph over No. 6 SC on Monday in a nonconference game at Storrs, Conn. "That's kind of impressive, I think".

No one has been able to rock the Huskies this season.

Since then, Final Four appearances have become commonplace for CT, and the Huskies have added two more titles, including one that came with last season's 39-0 march to perfection. Everything they said about it was true.

Leaving aside the utterly bananas concept of winning 100 games in a row - of going more than two years without a loss (that alone boggles the mind) - this "rebuilding" team has managed to face almost every top opponent in the country and come out victorious.

With South Carolina's bigs, Butler will certainly have an opportunity to make an impact. The pair has averaged a combined 31 points and 18.6 rebounds in keeping SC atop the Southeastern Conference and tracking toward a fourth consecutive league title.

The gift of Gabby got Auriemma and his storied program their 100th straight win Monday night here before a sellout crowd of 10,167 in their campus arena Gampel Pavilion and another moment that will be talked about for the ages. He's guided them to 11 National Championships, including the last four and likely the next. Gray, the former North Carolina star, has shown versatility and steady defense. South Carolina's final three possessions ended in turnovers, and UConn converted all three into baskets - five of those points coming from Naphessa Collier.

In another Jimmy V Classic matchup between No. 1 UConn and No. 3 Notre Dame, the Huskies faced one of their toughest tests of the 2015-2016 season.

"That's a good question", Staley said. It was the amount of coverage we had and how many people were watching the game.

CHASING 131: UConn is still short of the overall college basketball record for consecutive wins. Williams, who finished on top for the Huskies, added a jumper.

"I kept saying to everyone that follows our team all year long, 'We're one injury, a couple fouls away from just being average at best.' But, it was meant to be", he said. "We were like the (New England) Patriots in the first half: 'Let's try this. We'll have everybody ready".

"I told the kids this is great, you're going to be in the history books", said Huskies coach Geno Auriemma, who is 980-134 in 32 years.

She's seen up close Auriemma's style and how he runs a successful, winning program - something Staley's working to bring to SC.
