Sheri Gordon, the mother of missing toddler Semaj Crosby, is now under investigation for an allegation of neglect, the Department of Child and Family Services confirmed.

Hundreds of police and volunteers searched Wednesday for Semaj.

The Will County Sheriff's Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation executed a search warrant late Wednesday at the home in Joliet Township and found Semaj Crosby dead.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday to determine the girl's cause of death. "DCFS has been working with the family, offering services since September 2016". "But there were different people there off and on", Ackerson said.

Deputy Chief Richard Ackerson with the Will County Sheriff's Office said the house was in deplorable condition and between five to 15 people were living at the residence at any given time. It said final results will depend on toxicology results and the investigation by authorities.

"Tuesday. was a nice day outside and there were many children playing outside, please talk to your children and ask them if they may have seen or heard anything", the sheriff's office said.

He says detectives started to talk to the mother but stopped after someone else who lived at the house pounded on a wall and shouted for her to stop talking.

"I just want her home with mommy". And, he said, based on statements from credible witnesses who saw the girl outside the house shortly before she vanished, authorities believed the girl was not inside.

1 p.m. Thursday: The house and street remain blocked off as police investigate.

On Wednesday morning, a second team of bloodhounds was called to the scene from Cook County.

Tuesday night: Additional emergency personnel join the search, which continues throughout the night and includes tracking dogs and a helicopter.

The Will County coroner's office is reporting inconclusive autopsy results in the death of a 1½-year-old girl whose body was found in a northern IL home.

After realizing Semaj had wandered away from the home, family members looked for the girl in the area until 6:30 p.m., when they called authorities, police said.
