Director James Mangold tweeted the news telling fans who wanted to see that version to "not make any plans on the evening of May 16".

Last month, Logan director James Mangold revealed that he was working on a black and white edition of Hugh Jackman's X-Men swansong, a la the Black and Chrome version of Mad Max: Fury Road. This special presentation of Logan is going to be a one night only event, so be sure to grab your tickets quickly. This was all but confirmed recently, as a Google Play listing for Logan stated that the release will include a "noir" version as well, which pretty much let the cat out of the bag.

Asked if b&w fans can just adjust the color settings "on any movie ever and achieve the same goals right now?"

It only came out in cinemas a matter of weeks ago but Logan is about to be re-released in the U.S. - only this time it's in black and white. To which he replied, "The answer is no". But the black-and-white version will be included on the film's Blu-ray and DVD offerings, which are scheduled for release May 23.

He also assured one other fan that a great black and white version will need to be regraded and timed shot by shot to get a good effect. It was, in a way, seeing the new film for the first time.

The black and white edition of Hugh Jackman's final Wolverine film will only be available in US theaters.

Are you excited to see Logan pop its claws in black and white?
