The Boston Celtics beat the Washington Wizards 123-101 to move to within a game of a place in the NBA's eastern conference finals.

Wizards guard John Wall goes to the basket against Celtics forward Amir Johnson (90) during Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Al Horford delivered 19 points on 8 of 9 shooting and had seven assists and six rebounds while the Wizards concentrated on stopping Isaiah Thomas.

Following the win, Celtics coach Brad Stevens spent a lot of time talking about goal, something his team showed plenty of in Game 5 to get the win.

"There were a few guys that walked up to me and said 'I think Jimmy had said last game that we can't let guys like Avery Bradley score 20, '" Bradley recalled. "I think they kind of surprised us". "We've done a pretty good job on their best player, but not (a) good enough job on the other guys".

This year, the Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards have a total of nine playoff games at Boston, and the hometown team has won all nine.

The Washington Wizards and the Boston Celtics will go the distance in their NBA Eastern Conference play-off semi-final. If the Boston-Washington series goes seven games, the victor meets the Cavaliers next Wednesday.

"Um, I still hear my name ringing in my head because that's all I heard when I was on the court, but I was just going out there to play", Oubre told reporters, via The Washington Post.

John Wall had a team-high 21 points and Bradley Beal had 16 for the Wizards. Washington had a 16-0 spurt to start Game 1, a 22-0 run in Game 3 and 26-0 burst in Game 4.

The Celtics also shot 48.5 percent from 3-point range on 16-for-33 shooting.

About the only drama in Boston's Game 5 win was when the Wizards scored the first two buckets of the game, for fear the Celtics would get off to another slow start. "For us to already go through that against a very good team, against an intense crowd". "But, you know, sometimes you feel a lot better when you make shots at the rate we did".

Jared Weiss: I tried asking Scott Brooks if their defensive gameplan against the Horford and Thomas actions were a death blow for the Wizards.

Following a Game 5 in the San Antonio/Houston series that proved to be the most exciting and most competitive of the second round, the congruent swing match in the Washington/Boston series proved to be quite a bit less interesting. In Boston's three wins, Wall has a plus/minus of minus-17. The Wizards have to play bigger, and they have to slow down Boston's impeccable ball movement. "And that's what Avery Bradley does each and every night". And they literally have nearly three guys on me and there's no way that I can keep going like that.

The Washington Wizards did everything they could to keep Isaiah Thomas from having a big game on Wednesday.

Isaiah Thomas & Co. will get the opportunity to close out the Wizards on the road during Friday's Game 6.

The home team in each game this series has scored points easily, averaging 122.4 points per contest.

His playoff run lasted all of one game last season thanks to a hamstring injury in the opening game of Boston's first-round matchup with Atlanta.
