'Pay Trump bribes here' projected on Trump hotel

"The rules and the lines are being pushed so far and this seemed to be so clear to me".

The clause, which forms Article 1, Section 9 of the USA constitution, prohibits government officials from accepting payments or gifts from foreign governments.

Leading Democrats have joined ethics experts in questioning why the General Services Administration, which oversees the lease, did not move to terminate the agreement once Trump was elected, because the deal includes a clause barring any "elected official of the government of the United States" from deriving "any benefit" from the project. The government watchdog group filed a lawsuit in federal court immediately after Trump took office, which is still making its way through the system (another lawsuit, from D.C.'s Cork Wine Bar, claims unfair competition specifically from the Trump hotel).

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington alleges that when the hotel and other Trump-owned properties take payments from foreign governments, it violates the clause.

Trump also defended his hotel past year, saying during an interview with The New York Times that "the law is totally on my side, meaning, the president can't have a conflict of interest". Despite the calls for the president to divest from the property, the GSA has sided with Trump, though their ruling hasn't stopped some local businesses from lashing out.

Before Trump became President, he transferred control of his vast business holdings to his older sons and a Trump Organization executive.

Bell, who has come as close as one can get to being a professional projection activist, parked his van about 9:15 p.m.in an ideally situated space on 12th Street NW - across the street from the west entrance of the Trump International Hotel. "Arts are what inform people".

Bell has wielded his projector pretty prolifically. The one thing we can't do is block traffic.

Though up but for a brief moment in the late hours of Monday, Bell's projected light show caught the attention of communities on Reddit and Twitter, with an image of the "Trump Bribes" message receiving more than 100,000 upvotes on the former platform in the 10 hours since its posting. "He said so much that they could figure it out".

Says the artist: "We're not going to slow down any time soon".
