Tom Cruise reveals 'Top Gun 2' to start filming soon

Directed by the late Tony Scott, Top Gun was released 31 years ago, in 1986. When asked if the rumors were true, Cruise responded, "Yes, it's true".

"It's true. Yea, it's true", he said during an interview on the Australian morning show, Sunrise. He added that he will "probably" start filming in the next year. "I know, it's happening, it is definitely happening".

Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise has finally put an end to years of speculation by confirming there will be a remake of cult film favourite Top Gun.

Tom Cruise is going back to the danger zone of "Top Gun".

"It's happening, it's definitely happening". But he was bombarded with even more questions previous year about the possibility of a sequel as fans celebrated the 30th anniversary of the film.

Cruise is now in Australia promoting the release of the latest film in The Mummy franchise, which hits cinemas on June 8.

"You're the first people I've said this to", Cruise reveals.

Kilmer said in April that he'd be down to reprise his role as Lt. Tom "Iceman" Kazanski.
