Andressian was arrested about 1 an undisclosed location by California officers working in conjunction with Metro and federal authorities, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

On Friday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department made a tragic announcement in the case: Aramazd Andressian Sr. had been arrested on suspicion of his son's murder.

"After reviewing all of the evidence in this case, homicide investigators presented the facts to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and obtained a murder filing against the suspect", Medrano said in a written statement.

The 5-year-old Pasadena boy was last seen on the morning of April 21, 2017 while in custody of his father.

The father's attorney, Robert Nardoni, has previously said his client is innocent and that last week's arrest came as a surprise. The #father is under suspicion of murdering his 5-year-old son Aramazd Andressian Jr.

For her part, District Attorney Jackie Lacey said she wouldn't have authorized bringing the murder charge if she didn't think county prosecutors could convict Andressian Sr. of the murder charge. He told authorities he'd taken prescription pills, and the auto had been doused in gasoline.

The father was reportedly found passed out alone in Arroyo Park near his South Pasadena home the day Aramazd was reported missing and taken to a hospital.

Andressian expected to return to Los Angeles County pending the extradition process. According to Andressian Sr., he believes he may have been attacked while at the park. The sheriff's department plans to release more information on Monday during a news conference. Sheriff's officials say the father had taken prescription pills and was found in a auto doused in gasoline in what they say was an attempt to take his own life. The vehicle was doused in gasoline and there was a rag sticking out of the gas tank.

Estevez has also spoken publicly, pleading for the public's help at a May news conference with law enforcement. Investigators say that before his arrest in Las Vegas, he was socializing and behaving in a way not consistent of a grieving father.

When he failed to meet with ex-wife Ana Estevez at their pre-arranged meeting place on April 22, the authorities were notified by the anxious mother. "My heart is shattered and I will miss my son immensely each and every second of every day for the rest of my life".

"I will continue to believe my son is alive until (he is) found", she said. "Piqui was everything great in my life and I can not imagine the emptiness and the void that I will bear until we are together again one day", the statement said.

The boy's mother reported him missing on April 22 after Andressian Sr. did not show up to exchange custody of the child.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 323-890-5500.
