The New Orleans Saints made a move on Monday that indicates that none of the doctors who have examined Fairley had any good news for the defensive tackle's playing future, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fairley, 29, visited multiple doctors this offseason regarding his heart condition, and reports began surfacing earlier this month that his National Football League career could be in jeopardy.

Fairley was diagnosed with a heart condition this off-season, shortly after signing a four-year, $28 million contract with New Orleans.

The Saints placed the veteran defensive lineman on the non-football injury list Monday. Fairley had a career season with 6.5 sacks in his first season with the Black and Gold. But now the future of Fairley with the Saints and his future in the National Football League are all on hold with Nick being shelved for the 2017 season. He will miss this upcoming season.

Fairley started all 16 games for the Saints last season, tallying 43 total tackles. Fairley learned a few month ago that a Red Flag was raised on his heart after a health examine. "The second opinion was a little different, and he's. already gotten a third opinion". The New York Jets recently out Sheldon Richardson on the trade block, Richardson has been a solid player for the Jets but he has a character problem that might be too much for the Saints to go after him.
