Many residents have painful memories of a 2013 wildfire that killed 19 members of a Prescott-based firefighting crew nearly four years to the date. "We need help", the caller says.

"The fire is massive", the caller said, urging the dispatcher to send an officer immediately to "talk to this landowner before he burns down Brian Head".

Firefighters hope to have the fire contained by July 15. Homes there have been evacuated since June 17. There are now 525 firefighters and personnel on site with no injuries to date.

Evacuation warnings were issued for Highland Home Road, east to Highway 243 including the communities of Poppet Flats and Silent Valley.

In Los Angeles, a motorist crashed into a tree Sunday, sparking a fire that quickly spread to 750 acres in about three hours.

Doug Ducey says the growing wildfire, which is near the site of a blaze that killed 19 firefighters four years ago, is the state's top priority.

Many local firefighters were helping out Monday in the wildfire efforts throughout the state, Curry said.

Residents and visitors returning to the burned areas will likely see smoke coming from the interior of the fire where heavily timbered areas may continue to smolder.

In central OR, the Rhoades Canyon Fire grew to 15,000 acres but was 100% contained Sunday. The fire is about 10% contained. The fire started after a single vehicle collision.

RCFD and CAL Fire were leading the firefight.

The southbound lanes of Highway 79 have fully reopened after being closed Monday.

The Upper Bear Valley area above Paragonah is being evacuated due to forecast winds.

The heat in the West and Southwest is blamed for the deaths of two people in California, and it could have been a factor in the deaths of two hikers whose bodies were found in New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The cause remains under investigation.
