Konta recovered from a heavy fall to beat Kerber in their quarter-final clash on Thursday, after also defeating French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko earlier in the day to seal two morale-boosting wins.

Konta is seeded No. 6 at Wimbledon, which starts on Monday.

Serena Williams misses the tournament due to her pregnancy, but her sister Venus, a five-time Wimbledon champion has been drawn to play Belgium's Elise Mertens. "I've got a bit of a sore head right now but we'll see", Konta said courtside.

"Obviously next week is Wimbledon, but I made this decision according to my health, regardless of what tournament is coming up next week". "I'm actually feeling not too bad".

British number one Johanna Konta plays Hsieh Su-wei in the first round. "What happens in the following 24 hours and the following 24 hours after that, I'll see once this 24 hours is up".

"I'm looking to just make sure that I'm in a good place physically and health-wise to be able to compete next week, but more importantly just to be in a good place health-wise".

It was a fittingly eventful end to a sensational day for the British women on the south coast as both Konta and Heather Watson won two matches each to advance to the Aegon International semi-finals.

The Briton faces Caroline Wozniacki today.

Kerber, the world number one, has struggled since reaching the top of the rankings, making just one final in 2017 and suffering a number of early exits.

It looked as though the contest could be ended swiftly as Wozniacki broke to go 2-1 up in the second, but Watson suddenly found some rhythm, hitting straight back to love before a morale-boosting fifth game saw her rescue four break points.

"I'm feeling optimistic (about meeting Zanevska), feeling great within myself going into next week". I was hoping to do well but this is the dream result. "I've played her many times and it's always an incredible battle". "I'm looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to playing against her". I know that it will be very much the same story.

"I played (Pliskova) in the semis previous year and I have had many tough battles against her".
