Novak Djokovic beats Medvedev to reach Eastbourne final

Top seed Djokovic, playing the week before Wimbledon for the first time since 2010, brushed aside Medvedev 6-4, 6-4 and will face second seed Gael Monfils in Saturday's final, after the Frenchman edged out fellow countryman Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/4).

It's the 68th career title for Djokovic, and his first on grass outside of Wimbledon, which he won in 2011, 2014, and 2015.

Monfils put up a decent challenge but Djokovic controlled affairs, breaking in the opening game and also to close out the first set before again striking at the end of a closely-contested second to seal victory in 76 minutes. We played for the 14th time and it's 14-0.

"I like to play the week before a Grand Slam and get matches in", she said.

Djokovic won the Qatar Open in January in his first event of 2017 but his only other final since was in Rome, where he lost to Alexander Zverev in straight sets in May.

With world number one and two Andy Murray and Djokovic both struggling with form and Nadal fearing whether his injured knees will bear the pain and stress of the grass courts, Federer is all but set to go into the tournament as the favourite contender.

"Most of all, I felt very welcomed here by the people", said the 30-year-old.

Andy Murray begins his quest for a third Wimbledon title over the next fortnight after his triumphs in 2013 and previous year.

The former world number one, who was shocked by Sam Querrey in round three at SW19 a year ago, now has his eyes fixed firmly on a greater prize. Obviously it feels right, looking back at the decision making process and whether or not I should come here.
