Both houses of Parliament were on Monday adjourned until Tuesday after making obituary references to members who passed away recently and to victims of Amarnath Yatra terror attack in which seven people were killed.

Meanwhile, the polling for the President election is underway at the Parliament and the various state Assemblies. The Opposition is united on several issues to corner the Modi government. It plans to introduce 16 new bills, push for the passage of 18 pending draft legislation and seek the approval of Parliament for the supplementary demand for grants.

"We will also raise the issues related to mob lynching, agrarian crisis in view of farmer suicides". "In the name of saviour of cow, the government has become the devourer (Rakshak ke naam par ye sarkar bhakshak ban gayee hai)", Salim said. Elected members of both houses of Parliament and assemblies in states, including the National Capital Region of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry, are eligible to vote.

Targeting the Centre on the Kashmir issue, he said the government "closed all doors for dialogue" which led to "political suffocation" in the Valley.

To counter the opposition's onslaught, the government is also gearing up.

Spread over 26 days, the session will have 19 sittings and the government has lined up heavy legislative agenda.

The BJP Parliamentary Party Executive will meet on the eve of begining of the monsoon session that will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister has this morning thanked all parties for helping launch the mega reform Goods and Services Tax or GST, saying GST also stands for "Growing Strong Together".

The Government has convened the meeting at 11 AM while Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has invited the leaders at another meeting at 7 PM.
