The defending Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich have won the 2017 Supercup, after beating the DFB Pokal Cup winners Borussia Dortmund 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

In penalties, Kimmich and Sebastian Rode missed to leave things tied at 3 after the fourth round, and Marc Bartra missed the decisive penalty, with Sven Ulreich making his second save.

US attacker Christian Pulisic fired the hosts ahead on 12 minutes at the Westphalenstadion, but Robert Lewandowski equalised six minutes later from close range. "I'm happy we were very concentrated", Ancelotti said.

"Of course the title is important", Ancelotti said.

Bayern Munich's pre-season and performance in the DBL-Supercup on Saturday has been less than stellar but Robert Lewandowski believes the Bavarians will find their top form in a few months and that writing them off will be a huge mistake.

"I'm very glad about the victory, it is the first title", Lewandowski told Bayern's official website. "But again, we should not have let the game go into the penalty shoot-out".

"We should have used these [goals] better, and we also conceded two sloppy goals".

"We will do everything in our power to ensure, and are optimistic, that all the problems will be resolved by the start of the Bundesliga season on August 18". In the end, we showed great morale, getting the result we wanted.

Peter Bosz' men had good chances to win the penalty shootout as Kimmich's effort got defused by Buerki.
