The committee reached out to 44 cities in three nations inquiring about their interest in hosting World Cup matches.

Included in the list were nine Canadian stadiums in seven cities: McMahon Stadium (Calgary); Commonwealth Stadium (Edmonton); Olympic Stadium (Montreal); Saputo Stadium (Montreal); TD Place (Ottawa); Mosaic Stadium (Regina); Rogers Centre (Toronto); BMO Field (Toronto); and B.C. Place (Vancouver). Each city is asked to declare its interest to take part in the bidding process by September 5.

Canada, U.S.A., and Mexico are working together to secure the tournament and have submitted a long list of 44 potential host cities. The United Bid Committee, which is coordinating the North American proposal, released their longlist of 46 potential host cities that include Toronto, New York and Vancouver.

However, Rogers Centre is not ideal as its configuration is primarily designed for baseball, and BMO Field would necessitate a 10,000 seat expansion to meet the minimum 40,000-seat Federation Internationale de Football Association requirement for the early stage matches.

There will be 80 matches at that World Cup as it expands to 48 teams.

2026 FIFA World Cup a "salivating proposition". He estimated that the city would make tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue from hosting games.

"In addition to a stadium capable of hosting global soccer, each city has to propose top international-level training sites and locations for team base camps, and hotels for teams, staff and VIP's", The United Bid Committee said in a statement. The announcement was made by the United Bid Committee on the U.S. Soccer federation website. Officials have said North America's transportation and lodging infrastructure is uniquely prepared to host an expanded tournament when compared with other parts of the world. "We have experience hosting large events and the Super Bowl in 2018 and the NCAA Men's Final Four in 2019 will demonstrate that we are successful at hosting some of the most popular sporting events".
