Before this latest news conference, it had become clear that the man who rammed his auto into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing a woman and injuring dozens of people, had idolized Adolph Hitler long before he joined the white nationalist rally.

It was the second round of protests outside the New York City building since the president arrived Monday night, and it was a swift and vocal response to Trump's earlier news conference at the tower, where he angrily doubled down on his belief that "both sides" were to blame for the violence in Charlottesville. "He's allowed these people, he's allowed facism, he's allowed the KKK, he's allowed Nazis to show their ugly face, and we're here to remind him there's a cost for that!"

In his Tuesday remarks, Trump returned to blaming "both sides" for the violence over the weekend while insisting that there were many "good people" among the neo-Nazis who participated in the so-called "Unite the Right" rally on Saturday. "Heather Heyer, say her name!" the group chanted.

Moore emphasized that nearly two-thirds of white men and a majority of white women voted for Trump.

In an August 15 interview with CNN's Don Lemon, filmmaker Michael Moore likened supporters of President Donald Trump to rape enablers (video below). "For the sake of the soul of our country, we must come together to restore our national dignity that has been robbed by Donald Trump's presence in the White House".

Moore said it was "criminal" to "support" any of the people who harmed antifa protesters in Charlottesville.

Mr. Moore said Mr. Trump's supporters can redeem themselves by rejecting him moving forward.

Moore also addressed Trump's defense of the Charlottesville rally at the top of the show, when he usually discusses the latest headlines. "I think I'm there", Moore said.

"He was elected by white America", Moore told Lemon, adding "they voted for Trump because they were angry".
