The Titans answered with another scoring drive, with Henry scoring his second touchdown, a 1-yard run that capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium, sources told ESPN.

The Titans did a lot of things right this week, including forcing a pair of early turnovers to set up a scoring barrage right out of the gate before a sun-baked crowd just two days before the eclipse shades the city.

Whether Panthers quarterback Cam Newton plays Saturday in Carolina's preseason game against the Titans will be decided Friday after the quarterback meets with trainers about his shoulder.

The Titans used Henry at running back on their first five series of the game, which netted three touchdowns and a field goal.

That seems unlikely considering the 2015 NFL MVP did not throw a single ball in a team drill during the two joint practices, and the first time Newton threw passes defended by Tennessee was Thursday.

"It was a lot better".

Marcus Mariota finished his brief appearance going 6-for-8 with 61 yards and the touchdown pass. Backups Matt Cassel and Alex Tanney threw for a combined 173 yards on 15-for-25 passing. "We've just got to continue to build this momentum, build the foundation and get ready for the season".

Ryan forced a fumble on Carolina's first offensive play of the game, and safety Kevin Byard pounced on it.

Carolina pulled within 24-17 in the third quarter on Cameron Artis-Payne's 1-yard score.

Henry scored on a 17-yard sweep with 2:02 left in the first quarter as Tennessee took a 17-0 lead. "That's what we have to have", Titans coach Mike Mularkey said.

The Titans opted to sit running back DeMarco Murray, which allowed Henry a chance to start again, and make plays. Other than one long pass reception by Taywan Taylor and a good run from Akeem Judd (who?), the Titans offense was lifeless. Carolina would tie up the game on a 37-yard field goal from Graham Gano, but several minutes later it was a three-yard TD run from David Fluellen that put the Titans ahead for good.
