According to US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Scott H. Swift, the search for the other missing sailors is still underway.

USA navy said 10 sailors are missing and five injured when the collision happened early Monday while the destroyer was transiting to a routine port visit in Singapore. The Navy said the ship suffered "significant damage" to its hull, flooding crew berths, machinery and communications rooms.

But for now, there's no explanation for the collision and no answers for the families of 10 missing sailors as the global search-and-rescue operation continues.

Ships, aircraft and divers from an global search-and-rescue operation have been looking for the missing USA sailors to the east of Singapore and peninsula Malaysia, near where the accident happened.

Swift said the Malaysian navy had reported locating other potential remains and was working to confirm the identities.

Meanwhile, a multi-nation search-and-rescue effort is continuing in the collision zone - an area east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.

The commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet has commended the crew of the USS John S. McCain for righting the destroyer quickly after Monday's collision with an oil tanker near Singapore.

The collision marks the second time in two months that a USA warship has collided with another ship in the Pacific Ocean near Asia. No one was hurt in the first two incidents, but seven Navy sailors were killed in June in a collision between the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship off the coast of Japan.

This year, US Navy ships have been in at least four accidents in the Pacific.

On May 9, meanwhile, the USS Lake Champlain collided with a South Korean fishing boat off the Korean peninsula.

"This trend demands more forceful action", Adm. John Richardson, chief of naval operations, said.

The warship was on its way to a routine port visit in Singapore when the collision occurred. The Malaysian navy also discovered remains that could be one of the missing sailors.

He said it was "quite extraordinary" for the McCain to be "up and running as an operational ship nearly immediately after the collision". America will also support ongoing searches for 10 missing Sailors. The Indonesian navy said it had deployed two warships.

It added that investigations into the cause of the Fitzgerald collision in June "shed some light on the way United States warships tend to sail without observing maritime traffic rules and the sloppiness of their crews". The admiral, who said flooding has been halted, praised the crew's damage-response efforts and said the full extent of the damage is still being determined. Last week, the commanding officer, executive officer and senior non-commissioned officer of the USS Fitzgerald were relieved of their duties. And for more than 70 years, the U.S. Navy has helped guarantee the security and stability of the western Pacific.

The McCain is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer - named after the father and grandfather of Sen.
