"The Israeli government definitely feels it has a freer hand with Trump", said Anat Ben-Nun, a Peace Now staffer.

Palestinians were still seeking a pledge of support from the Trump administration for the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel - the foundation of US Middle East policy for the past two decades.

"We reject the position of the current U.S. administration which have so far failed to declare a clear American stance that supports the Palestinian rights of ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state", Barghouthi said.

Mahmoud Al Aloul, a senior member of the Fatah Central Committee said past U.S. negotiators had focused in their talks on "Israeli lies" about Palestinian incitement to violence.

The site is the holiest site in Judaism and the third-holiest in Islam, and it is central to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"The EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah express strong concern about the recent confiscations of Palestinian school structures undertaken by Israel in Bedouin communities in the occupied West Bank", the missions said in a statement. The White House, in pursuing a peace deal, has yet to lay out a framework for negotiations following multiple meetings with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. "I think this is a sign of the great alliance between us and the great goals that guide us".

"We hope that the American administration and the envoys of President Donald Trump that will meet tomorrow with president Mahmud Abbas will announce the American administration's adoption of the two-state solution to move the peace process forward", he told AFP.

"If we don't know where we are heading, if we don't know what the end game is, then we are in a desert without a map", said Mohammad Shtayyeh, a senior adviser to Abbas. It has to be workable to both sides. "We have seen it happen before".

Abbas also faces internal political problems, as his Fatah party struggles with Hamas, the militant group that runs Gaza, for control and power in the Palestinian political sphere. These issues also include a Palestinian state built on pre-1967 borders with a capital in Jerusalem, and a solution for the "Palestinian right of return".

Kushner was appointed to help broker a deal between Israel and the Palestinians after Trump took office.

"I believe (Trump's) leverage has declined considerably, at least from the point-of-view of getting major concessions or a commitment to a major programme toward two states from the leaders, so that's why I think the shift should come to the more practical on-the-ground steps", he said.

-Israeli regional goals hold little indication that the Trump administration is prepared to support the call from a majority of Palestinians that their state, peace and security be officially recognized by the US government.
