With the window closing the night before, the Belgian keeper was keen to share a joke with Costa, who will return to Chelsea training this week.

Costa is now holed up in his hometown of Lagarto in Brazil and refusing to return to Chelsea after a major fallout with manager Antonio Conte at the start of the summer.

Atletico Madrid have advised Diego Costa to return to Chelsea with the Blues threatening to sue the forward for up to £50m.

Having joined PSG for a world-record fee this summer, the phrase has become known among football fans and players alike, and is now seemingly used ironically to make light of transfer sagas.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa reportedly remains unwilling to "make peace" with the Blues after failing to secure a return to Atletico Madrid, while it is also said that Tottenham Hotspur will rival the champions for Ross Barkley in January.

Of course Costa's inclusion in the Chelsea squad could be the club covering itself in case of legal action.

The 25-man squad lists had to be completed on Friday, with the Premier League confirming the selections on their official website.

The Italian coach conveyed his message to the striker via text during the summer break and later revealed that he had informed Costa of his decision in January this year. In July, Costa fuelled rumours of joining his former club after he was seen partying in Brazil wearing Atletico Madrid jersey.

'That is the reality of the situation.

'You have to battle with the centre backs and physically they are a lot stronger than in any other league.
