MI defense takes big bite out of Gators

MI athletic director Warde Manuel said he is a fan of the jerseys and said it's completely up to Harbaugh on what jerseys the team wears.

It came from Anthony Riddle, a 13-year combat veteran in the United States Marines who also happened to be a MI fan.

MI football also got solid contributions from its young pass catchers.

"Being the oldest guy in the room, I'm very hard on guys", Sherit said. Neither quarterback threw a touchdown pass, and each lost a fumble-Zaire's came on a strip-sack in the end zone that delivered the Wolverines a clinching touchdown. "You know what? He's played in state championship games".

Anthony Riddle, who is from Jackson, Michigan, shared in the letter some of the experiences of training and combat that he and his fellow young Marines went through.

The 11th-ranked Michigan Wolverines, led by coach Jim Harbaugh, meet the 17th-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday, September 2, 2017 (9/2/17) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the first game of the season for both teams.

The Florida Gators are coming from a 9-4 record and they nearly got to where they wanted, but they lost to Alabama in the SEC title game.

Well, most of the time it does, but when Harbaugh is in charge, it seems like it means a whole lot less than it does on other campuses. But with the ball on the 24, Anthony Winbush sacked Crouch on back-to-back plays, forcing IL to punt.

"You see guys like [freshman receiver Tarik Black]", Speight said. The national champion in 2013 and a semifinalist the following year in the first College Football Playoff, the Seminoles haven't been serious title contender the last two seasons. They finished with six sacks. If that's the case, the Wolverines' defensive linemen should compete for Mr. Universe. Saturday's performance against MI wasn't just bad; it might be the offensive low point of head coach Jim McElwain's tenure. They really haven't since Urban Meyer was their coach some seven years ago. Despite having the fewest returning starters in the country, MI made a statement that they will be one of the best teams in the country again this year.

MI looks to reload rather than rebuild after having a school-record 11 players selected in the 2017 NFL Draft and will count on a number of highly-touted underclassmen, including defensive end Rashan Gary, who was named to the AP Preseason All-America team, to play prominent roles.

As for the Gators, Florida is also led by a creative third year coach, offensive mastermind Jim McElwain. The over is 17-4 in Wolverines last 21 games overall and the under is 16-5 in Bearcats last 21 games overall. They don't jump off the screen, but they do jump off the line, noticeably faster than an overwhelmed Florida offensive line.

The Gators couldn't do anything with those chances as they were shut out 20-0 in the second half. Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire came on after that, and was 9 of 17 for 106 yards.

In the final minutes, they handed him one final indignity with a sack/fumble for a touchdown, emptying the Florida side of the stadium.

"The message, it's irrelevant what the age is", Harbaugh said.

Yes, Michigan is young and inexperienced, but its talent is undeniable. That will be something the Wolverines will look to utilize moving forward.

Harbaugh came up short in his first two meetings with Ohio State, and if he isn't able to knock off the Buckeyes again this year former MI running back Jamie Morris says he belongs on the hot seat.

MI will stop the run and collapse pockets, even if it faces much stronger offensive lines as the season progresses. The school relented a little, releasing the student-athletes on athletic scholarship on Harbaugh's roster.
