A much-improved performance from the Hammers against Huddersfield at the London Stadium meant they finally won at the fourth attempt this campaign, with Pedro Obiang and Andre Ayew securing a 2-0 victory.

"It was a top performance, not in the sense of handsome football, but in determination and in executing the game plan". It is maybe not logical for me to be under pressure after three games but it is modern football.

Their perseverance repaid, nevertheless, as their first points of the project raised them two places to 18th and also condemned Huddersfield to their initial loss.

'It's been a tough road for us but we played our hearts out and got the three points'.

The hosts went close once again in the 26th minute but Huddersfield goalkeeper Jonas Lossi was well positioned to save James Collins' header.

Ayew, on as a second-half substitute, added a second goal in the 77th when he poked home a loose ball from inside the six-yard box from a corner.

'We deserved this result; we were second best in everywhere and weren't good enough with the ball, ' Huddersfield manager David Wagner said. "It is my birthday today and this is a great, great present for me".

West Ham kept pushing and Hernandez was unfortunate to see a right-footed strike crash off the crossbar after a fine Michail Antonio run on the right. "We made so many unforced errors".

Birthday boy Bilic, 49 on Monday, was booed when he subbed off Javier Hernandez, off-form and uncomfortable with playing to the left of Carroll, for Ayew.

"We have to be patient, keep working hard". He has got the three points on the board and can push on and the players who come back will strengthen the squad.
