Kevin De Bruyne scored a spectacular goal to open his account for the season and help Manchester City earn a hard-fought 2-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, while Sergio Aguero missed a penalty.

Combined with a 4-0 dismantling of Feyenoord in the opening Champions League group game, and a more modest 2-1 victory over West Brom in the Carabao Cup, City's momentum since the last global break has been formidable.
