"And to stand up there and say a group such as the National Football League and our players are doing anything that doesn't respect the flag is just not something that could be accepted".

President Donald Trump renewed his onslaught against the NFL, American football's elite league, with a series of Twitter tackles after a series of weekend protests continued. Everybody speaks and, you know, they say what they want to say but we're not going to sit here and pinpoint that moment in our life's and sit here and make it about the President.

"I thought it showed so much class to all take a knee showing unity before the national anthem was played, and all of them agreed that they wanted to stand during the national anthem", Jones said.

It's a comfortable way to seemingly appease the players who want to continue the protest for racial equality and social justice, started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last season, while also showing respect for the flag and the anthem. Before Monday's game, no Cowboys player had staged a protest during the anthem. Players will stand for Country! They all stood up during the anthem.

The Cowboys and Jerry Jones had an opportunity to take the high road and show America what is meant by the moniker 'America's Team, ' but they failed and failed miserably. Trump wrote, adding that "ratings for NFL footballare way down".

Jones said the Cowboys' actions on Monday were a way of trying to placate everyone in the locker room - those who felt a need to respond to Trump's attacks and those who felt strongly about not protesting during the anthem.

Three teams did not take the field for the national anthem and numerous NFL owners came out against Mr Trump's statements.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick first kneeled during the national anthem past year, refusing to stand to protest police shootings of unarmed African-Americans.

2 sources told @nbcdfw President Trump blew up Jerry's cell Monday calling him 4 times throughout the day to talk about anthem stuff. Wow.

Some owners explicitly criticized Donald Trump for his denunciation. "Make no mistake about that", Jones said in the aftermath.
