Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery's injury might not be as severe as reports suggested Thursday night.

In a relief effort during Thursday night's blowout win over the Chicago Bears, Jones rushed for 49 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

The key with Williams, though, is his health. He's believed to be day-to-day and may even be in the Packers' starting lineup when they travel to Dallas next Sunday.

If Montgomery and Williams were to miss next week's game with the Dallas Cowboys, Jones would likely be the starter.

Montgomery left after Green Bay's first offensive series against the Bears and didn't return. The Packers announced he suffered a knee injury Thursday, but he will have time to heal, with their next game coming October 8.

Pending Injuries, Packers' RB Aaron Jones Could Be Legitimate Fantasy Football Play
Packers: Aaron Jones impresses after injuries to Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams

That is not exactly what fantasy players are looking for, but Montgomery did manage 5.9 yards per carry a year ago as a converted receiver, and Williams has plenty of upside to be a game-changing back.

A three-down back with the size and skills to make plays between the tackles or on the outside, Jones has a fantastic combination of physical and mental tools that made him one of the more complete backs in this year's deep draft class. After all, the Packers are still going to throw the ball plenty with Aaron Rodgers under center, and Williams probably won't dominate the ball right away. Both rookies carry some risk until we see how their usage is split up.

Keep an eye on him when waivers hit this week.

He was replaced by rookie Jamaal Williams, who was knocked out midway through the second quarter with a knee injury.

Green Bay felt confident enough in his improvement at the position that it installed him as its lead back for 2017, with just a pair of rookie rushers behind him.
