John Mellencamp pays tribute to rock icon Tom Petty

Spokeswoman Carla Sacks says Petty died Monday night, October 2, 2017, at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after he suffered cardiac arrest.

The veteran star had been found unconscious and not breathing at his Malibu home on Sunday night, as first reported by TMZ. CBS News initially confirmed his death, but the LAPD is retracting it. "He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates, and friends".
