The FBI have begun questioning the Australian girlfriend of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock amid claims from her family she was sent away to stop her preventing the massacre.

Paddock had wired $100,000 to the Philippines, a law enforcement source said, but officials haven't been able to say exactly when the money transfer took place or who was the recipient.

Marilou is not a suspect and has not been charged with any crime, cops stressed, but it is unclear whether she knew of the shooting.

Danley lived with Paddock at a home in Mesquite, Nevada.

Paddock was responsible for shooting and killing at least 59 people and injuring more than 500 others at a Jason Aldean concert across from the Mandalay Bay hotel, according to law enforcement.

A Las Vegas sheriff said Paddock placed cameras in his room and in a food auto in the nearby hallway so he could see when police officers were closing in.

Marilou Danley, who US authorities have described as a " person of interest" in the investigation, left Manila for Los Angeles yesterday evening aboard Philippine Airlines Flight PR 102, according to Philippines immigration spokeswoman Antonette Mangrobang.

Danley was in the Philippines at the time of the attack; she had arrived there from Hong Kong on September 25, said Philippines immigration spokeswoman Antonette Mangrobang.

Mendoza, who is the supervisor at the Starbucks, told the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday that the abuse "happened a lot".

Cops admitted they were not yet sure of the Vegas gunman's motives, with Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo telling reporters: "We have no idea what his belief system was - I can't get into the mind of a psychopath".

They also believe that Danley knew nothing of Paddock's plan, and that she was sent away so she can not interfere with his plan.

Sherriff Lombardo also confirmed Ms Danley was a person of interest in the investigation.

The sisters, who were not identified by name and whose faces were blurred, added that Danley would willingly cooperate with investigators.

She had moved to Queensland in Australia sometime in the late 1970s, according to Australian media, and married a local man.

The Las Vegas shooter's girlfriend has voluntarily returned to the USA from the Philippines as authorities probe for any possible links to the case.

Paddock, 64, who used a sledgehammer to smash holes in two thick glass windows of his Mandalay Bay hotel suite, used high-powered rifles modified to be automatic for the mass shooting.

"She didn't even know that she was going to the Philippines until Steve said, "Marilou I found you a cheap ticket to the Philippines".

Immigration documents in the Philippines say that Danley first arrived there on September 15, departed on September 22 then returned three days later on a flight from Hong Kong.

So far, police believe Paddock acted alone - which could make his motive harder to determine.

The casino said in a statement she stopped working there "several years ago" and that it had no information on the pair.

Las Vegas Police said they would next provide an update on the investigation at 1 p.m. PT (1900 GMT). Earlier reports said that Danley was expected to return to US soil on Wednesday. Police said they're investigating the source of the leaked photos.
