Dodgers advance to NLCS with sweep of Diamondbacks

The trio reached base a combined nine times, and Los Angeles turned an early 2-0 deficit into a 7-2 advantage with three rallies, capped by a four-run surge in the fifth.

Despite the Dodgers quality at-bats and Darvish's dominant performance, the game was still 1-0 until Cody took over.

That 1-16 stretch the Dodgers endured in late August and September, the one that came out of nowhere when they were 55 games above.500 and ended any talk of them being remembered as one of the greatest teams in history, now looks like an aberration - albeit one that lasted almost three weeks and forced some serious introspection as the playoffs loomed.

The Los Angeles Dodgers celebrated Monday night after sweeping the Arizona Diamondbacks in their National League Division Series 3-0 to move on to the NL Championship series against the victor of the NLDS between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals.

The local product who made good for the visiting team engendered a few boo birds on Monday night, but they were drowned out by the chants of "Co-dy" from the Dodgers fans in the sellout crowd of 48,641. "From the first pitch, there was a plan in place, and we executed". But the push by the Dbacks would be short-lived, as Austin Barnes hit a line drive home run the following inning to extend the Dodgers lead to 3-1. "It's having the confidence to say, 'I'm going to get you out, every single time'".

But champagne and beer, whether poured down one's own gullet or dumped over each other's heads, seem to have a way of loosening lips, and so the Dodgers, as they celebrated their sweep of the Diamondbacks on Monday night in the visitors' clubhouse of Chase Field, were suddenly willing to gaze back into the past with an introspection they had resisted in recent days. "That's in the past", Jansen said of the teamwide slump. "We get him out of there". It hurts. We've got to admit it. We felt really good about coming in today. "You take a step back and look at it from that perspective, as a whole year, and you realize how special a year it was for us". That's everybody's mindset here.

For the series, the Dodgers bullpen allowed four runs (three earned) in 11 ⅔ innings, with a 10/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Roberts' expensive roster shows a remarkable affinity for teamwork and selflessness.

Some Arizona players hugged in the locker room after the game. Corey Seager and Yasiel Puig each drove in two runs as well.

The sweep allows Roberts to set his rotation in any way he chooses. Deadline acquisition Yu Darvish gave the Dodgers just what they had hoped for when they acquired him from the Rangers on July 31, outdueling Zack Greinke, who battled to keep the Diamondbacks in the game despite having less than his best stuff. I mean, I get why the D-Backs would be upset, but if you put a pool in your ballpark, you're asking for trouble.

"I was frustrated at myself not getting the job done, and he kind of pulled me aside and said, 'Next at-bat, don't try to do too much, ' " Bellinger said. "But it is nice to know you have eight fresh arms in the pen".
