Fired FBI Director Comey spotted in Iowa: It's for family, not politics

Former FBI Director James Comey has always been rumored to have a secret Twitter account, and this weekend he confirmed it by posting a photo of himself right here in Iowa.

Gizmodo speculated that Comey was behind the account of Reinhold Niebuhr, but there was no confirmation until the fired director posted a picture of himself standing in the middle of a road, peering across cornfields.

James Comey has been using an anonymous Twitter account, according to a journalist and friend of the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director. Gotta get back to writing. The account, under the pseudonym "Reinhold Niebuhr", takes the name of a well-known theologian about whom Comey wrote an undergraduate thesis at the College of William & Mary.

All six of the tweets Comey has written since he joined Twitter in February 2014 include photos-most of which are scenic. The former director, fired by President Trump back in May, has been at the center of politics for over a year now, spanning back to before the 2016 Presidential election. He wrote, "Watching migrating white pelicans in Iowa thinking about Niebuhr's Serenity Prayer".

Comey is married to Patrice Failor, who is an Iowa native.

The account seems to have changed its handle from ProjectExile7 to FormerBu, only fueling rumors that the account does indeed belong to Comey.

Unlike Trump, whose preferred form of communication is Twitter, Comey has not been prolific on the social media site.

Comey has more than 40,000 followers, a number that grew throughout the day Monday. The meme quotes Burgundy interpreting his dog's barking to say that the dog went to the bathroom in the refrigerator and ate a wheel of cheese, "Actually, I'm not even mad".

Trump fired Comey 41 days later.
