A laptop found in Las Vegas mass killer Stephen Paddock's hotel room was missing its hard drive - depriving officials of possible clues on why he unleashed his attack, ABC News reports.

The brother of the Las Vegas shooter who killed dozens of people and injured hundreds more during a country music concert has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography, officials said.

Fifty-eight people were killed and hundreds more were wounded in the shooting October 1 at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip.

He was taken into custody Wednesday morning at a nursing facility in Valley Village, a community just south of North Hollywood. The arrest was reportedly performed by a joint task force including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Los Angeles Police Department.

A criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles County lists 20 potential counts and indicates the alleged crimes, including possession of child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child, occurred in 2014.

Bruce Paddock spoke with NBC News following the shooting, describing his own misdeeds as "minor".

"Paddock had been squatting inside the business, and after his eviction the evidence was discovered", police said in a statement.

Paddock committed the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history Sunday night when he shot into a crowd killing 49 people and wounding over 500.
