Trump greets Sikhs on Guru Nanak's birth anniversary

The first two days comprises of 48-hour-long reiterations of verses from the Guru Granth Sahib - the holy book of Sikhs and organising processions by singing and dancing to spread Guru Nanak's peace message. "Pakistan is the land of Sikh Gurus and Sikhs love this land".

Before heading out on the pilgrimage, the pilgrims offered prayers at the Golden Temple, Sikhism's holiest shrine.

Guru Nanak, the first Sikh guru, was born in Nankana Saheb on the full moon day in 1469 in the "Kartik" month of the Hindu calendar. Guru Nanak birth anniversary celebrations glorify the doctrines of Sikhism.

Apart from Sikh, people from all other religions also celebrated Guru Nanak Jayanti.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

On the day of Guru Nanak Jayanti, the celebration begins in the early hours with Prabhat Pheris, a morning procession which starts at Gurudwaras. The Vice-Chancellor motivated the students to imbibe in themselves the teachings and message of Guru Nanak Dev ji. As per the Sikh traditions, the early years of Nanak Dev's life were marked with various events that portrayed that he has been marked by divine grace. The festivities in the Sikh religion revolve around the anniversaries of the 10 Sikh Gurus.

Many religious and social organizations had arranged langars for the devotees at these Gurdwaras.
