AMD Always Connected PCs will include Qualcomm modems

HP is promising to eke more than 20 hours out of the chip without a charge, and what's more, the Envy x2 and other Snapdragon-powered machines are created to deliver that kind of battery life even though they're always on and come with LTE built in.

What we do know is that Xiaomi was the first to announce it'll be making an 845 phone, as the Chinese brand joined Qualcomm on stage to tease its upcoming device. "ASUS NovaGo reinvents the concept of laptop connectivity and productivity - it's the world's first announced laptop that is connected virtually anywhere, at any time, with the new Gigabit LTE network*; and lasts up to 22 hours on a single charge for "all-day" battery life". The NovaGo is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC.

The Envy x2, in keeping with Microsoft's always-connected PC vision, purportedly sports long battery life, almost instant wake times from a sleep state, and ubiquitous LTE connectivity. Note that the Envy x2 will come preloaded with Windows 10S, which limits you to only using apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store. It's effectively a Snapdragon version of the Spectre x2. Shen said the Asus NovaGo would deliver up to 22-hour video playback (currently, most Intel-based laptops struggle to get past ten hours) and up to 30-day standby time.

How much that will cost you every month is similarly unclear at this point. The ASUS NovaGo is expected to reach the market first, a 2-in-1 convertible notebook with 360-degree hinges and a touchscreen.

Like the NovaGo, HP offers up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage but the base price will get you a lower spec model. It'll work as a tablet, complete with a digital stylus for Windows Ink, or with a magnetically-attached, backlit keyboard.

At its technology summit in Maui this afternoon, Qualcomm provided some additional details of the results of its partnership with Microsoft to bring Windows to the chipmaker's SoCs. Pricing isn't yet known, but it will begin to ship this Spring.

Contrary to what you might expect, the new Windows 10 ARM computers don't look hugely different from their Intel counterparts.

Windows 10 on ARM is a reboot of Microsoft's earlier attempts to marry mobile processors with full laptop experiences. In other words, precisely what one would expect from the next generation flagship chip from the company.
