Cardinals' Adrian Peterson Out For Rest of Season

Adrian Peterson's stint with the Arizona Cardinals will end in disappointment.

Arizona Cardinals running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly headed to the Injured Reserve, a move that would effectively end his 2017 season.

Peterson's season is over a day after coach Bruce Arians said he wasn't sure whether Peterson would return from the injury he suffered on November 26 against the.

"The good news is my neck injury doesn't require surgery, but I'm told by Dr. Robert Watkins that the best thing for me is just more rest than the length of this season", Peterson said in the statement. "I'm grateful for the opportunity that the Arizona Cardinals have given me to show that I can still contribute on an National Football League team". If Peterson is done with the Cardinals, there wouldn't be a huge market for him after he averaged 3.4 yards per carry this season and wasn't happy in New Orleans as a backup, which he would presumably be for any team that signed him in 2018.

For Peterson, it's the story of his career. In four games for the Saints, he ran for 81 yards on 24 carries and caught two passes for 4 yards. The running back, who hasn't played since Week 12, missed the Cardinals' past two games with a neck injury that didn't seem to be healing. He sat out 11 games last season (torn meniscus) and also missed time in 2013, 2011, 2010 and 2007 due to injuries. Two games later, he rushed for 159 yards.
