But, on the other, we also got Super Bomberman R for the Nintendo Switch last year, and that's a bit of a shocker considering that we haven't seen a new release from that series in years. After selling 10 million Switches and almost on the way to selling 14 million units within the console's first year on store shelves, Nintendo is looking to sell 20 million units in the next Japanese fiscal year.

Expectations will certainly be higher for Nintendo and the Switch heading into 2018, but maintaining its place in the video game hierarchy could prove tricky.

Nintendo did a lot right in 2017. It seems that the developers are looking to leave no platform left unturned with their approach of making the game as accessible as possible.

This is good news for people bored of gaming gems like Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. "As a publisher, salesperson, marketer and representative of Nintendo, it's a once-in-a-career kind of year".

"Having lived through four, five different platform launches, going back to the GameCube, we are extremely fortunate to have had both a Zelda and a Mario since launch and it's definitely helped the install base", Trepanier said. Kirby Star Allies, Metroid Prime 4, Shin Megami Tensei, and the untitled Yoshi game are popular contenders. Amazon has released its list of the best-selling games from 2017, and Nintendo managed to take seven of the top 10 spots.

Nintendo Direct streams normally see the reveal of several new titles alongside updates on those already announced and in development. This decision lead to one of my favorite new characters of the year, Rabbid Peach.

We're really excited to be launching our games on Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo has been a fantastic partner for us.
