HP unleashes next-gen Chromebox G2 with 8th Gen Kaby Lake Refresh

HP said that the new Chromebox will not be officially exhibited in the CES next week. Not too thin, and not too thick, at under 19 mm, the HP Chromebook 11 G6 and Chromebook 14 G5 start at 2.27 and 3.39 pounds respectively, which are fairly decent numbers for (semi) rugged machines created to survive kids as young as six. At CES 2018, Acer is releasing two new versions of the laptop, the Chromebook 11 C311-8H and C311-8HT, a non-touch and touch version respectively. Acer has gone with a passively cooled Intel Celeron CPU, which is completely silent and fine for loading a handful of browser tabs, but push it much harder and things will inevitably slow to a crawl.

Compared to the previous Chromebook 11 series from the house of Acer, the new Chromebook will be more portable and compact. Meanwhile, its CB311-8H counterpart will use the same LCD panel, but rely on the trackpad for control instead of touch.

Acer's Chromebook 11 is so mainstream you might overlook it. This enables the Chromebook 11 to connect to a host of peripherals and displays as well as charge the device. There's two standard USB ports too, and a microSD card slot. For connectivity, it includes the support for 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2.

Still, given most people look to Chrome OS for its balance of capabilities and affordability, we suspect more will pick the new Acer than cough up around four times the amount for the Pixelbook. There will be a few variants on sale of the device with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage and touch or non-touch screen option.

Availability wise, Acer has said that the Chromebook will appear in the European, Middle Eastern, and African markets in March where the base model will start at €249, before launching in the U.S. in April for US$249. Hence, you can easily carry the Chromebook to any place on the go.

Moreover, a dual-speaker, HDR support, Four USB (2 each of Type C & Type A (3.0)) ports, and an expandable storage support are featured by the Chromebook.
